Google Pixel Watch 3: Specifications Leak Ahead of Early Launch

Google is set to unveil its latest hardware two months ahead of schedule this year, with a launch event slated for August 13. Alongside the much-anticipated Pixel 9 series, the Pixel Watch 3 is also expected to make its debut. This year marks the first time the Pixel Watch will be available in two sizes, a detail confirmed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

A new leak, reportedly from a source within Google, has revealed further specifics about the Pixel Watch 3. The upcoming smartwatch will feature the Snapdragon W5 SoC, complemented by a custom co-processor. Battery capacities for the two sizes are set at 310 mAh for the 41mm model and 420 mAh for the 45mm version, promising improved battery life.

The 41mm Pixel Watch 3 boasts a display size of 32×32 mm, an increase from the 30×30 mm display on its predecessor. The 45mm model features a 36×36 mm display, with respective resolutions of 408×408 and 456×456. Although the overall design remains consistent with the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, the Pixel Watch 3 will see a reduction in screen bezels by one millimeter, from 5.5mm to 4.5mm.

In terms of display brightness, the Pixel Watch 3 will feature a peak of 2,000 nits, a significant enhancement from the 1,000 nits offered by the Pixel Watch 2. While this improvement does not equate to double the perceived brightness, it still represents a notable upgrade.

The Pixel Watch 3 will include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, confirmed by the FCC, enabling precise device location through Google’s Find My Device system. This feature may also allow the Pixel Watch 3 to function as a car key, provided automotive brands like BMW, Hyundai, and Kia extend their current UWB support to include Google’s new watch.

Color options for the 41mm Pixel Watch 3 include silver, black, and gold, with various band colors. The 45mm model will be available in hazel, black, and silver.

As the launch date approaches, anticipation builds for what could be one of Google’s most exciting hardware releases to date.
