Getty Images has unveiled a groundbreaking update to its generative AI services, boasting dramatic improvements in speed, quality, and accuracy. This new model, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, leverages NVIDIA’s advanced Edify architecture, part of the NVIDIA Picasso suite, to significantly enhance image generation capabilities.
The latest iteration of Getty Images’ AI technology delivers impressive performance, generating four images in approximately six seconds—an enhancement that effectively doubles the speed of its predecessor. This boost is achieved through updates to NVIDIA Edify, which include faster output speeds, superior quality, better alignment with user prompts, and expanded capabilities for longer prompts. Users can now benefit from enhanced 4K upscaling and the ability to fine-tune models for more precise results.
Grant Farhall, Chief Product Officer at Getty Images, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation in AI-driven imagery. “We are pushing the boundaries of AI-generated imagery to deliver even more powerful tools for our customers,” Farhall said. “This updated model, along with new capabilities, will enable our clients to efficiently bring their creative visions to life, while benefiting from the legal protections Getty Images is renowned for.”
Key features of the updated model include rapid generation speeds, advanced 4K detail, and support for longer prompts—up to 250 words. Users can now exert greater control over their outputs with advanced camera controls, including shot type and depth of field.
In addition to these enhancements, Getty Images is introducing new AI modification tools. These features allow users to edit both generated and pre-existing images with ease. Options include altering individual elements, extending the canvas, and removing backgrounds with a single click. These capabilities are currently available on iStock and will soon be integrated into Getty Images’ platform.
Farhall highlighted the broad applicability of these updates, noting, “The updated model and new AI functionalities are designed to serve a wide range of industries, providing both professionals and enthusiasts with powerful tools for creative expression and safe experimentation with AI.”
A key aspect of this AI model is its training source: Getty Images’ extensive creative library. This ensures that the generative AI services are free from third-party intellectual property issues such as trademarks and logos. Furthermore, Getty Images offers indemnification for commercial use, providing users with additional peace of mind.
Getty Images has also introduced fine-tuning capabilities, allowing enterprise clients to customize models with their own brand assets. This feature is designed to deliver a tailored experience that aligns with specific brand needs.
The launch of this updated model underscores Getty Images’ dedication to advancing AI technology while maintaining a strong focus on commercial safety and legal compliance. Through its platforms, including iStock and Getty Images, the company aims to offer innovative and comprehensive content solutions to clients worldwide.
