Google Chrome to Introduce Sensitive Content Redaction Feature for Android Screen Sharing

Google is set to enhance privacy in Chrome for Android by introducing a new feature designed to protect sensitive information during screen sharing and recording. This update addresses a critical vulnerability where sensitive data, such as credit card details and passwords, could be inadvertently exposed when users share or record their screens.

Currently, Google Chrome blocks content capture in incognito mode to safeguard user privacy. However, this protection does not extend to regular browsing tabs, where sensitive information could be visible during screen sharing or recording. To mitigate this risk, Google is testing an experimental feature labeled “Redact sensitive content during screen sharing, screen recording, and similar actions.”

According to Google’s description of the feature, once enabled, the entire content area will be redacted whenever sensitive form fields—like credit card numbers or passwords—are detected on the page. This redaction will apply during screen sharing, screen recording, and other similar activities. The feature is expected to be available for Android versions V and above.

At present, the flag is non-functional, but Google plans to roll out this capability in the near future. Users will have the opportunity to test this feature through Chrome Canary in the upcoming weeks.

Additionally, browser researcher Leo has uncovered a new functionality in Chrome for Android that allows users to close all incognito tabs simultaneously, further enhancing user control over their browsing sessions.
