Instagram Introduces Enhanced Privacy and Parental Controls for Teen Accounts

Meta Platforms Inc. is implementing a major update to Instagram aimed at increasing privacy and parental oversight for users under 18. Announced on Tuesday, this overhaul comes in response to mounting concerns about the impact of social media on young users.

As part of the update, Instagram will automatically convert all accounts belonging to teenagers into “Teen Accounts.” These new accounts will be set to private by default, ensuring that only users who follow or are already connected with the account holder can send messages or tag them in posts.

Additionally, the new settings will apply the strictest possible content filters to protect younger users from exposure to sensitive material. This move is part of Meta’s broader effort to address growing scrutiny and regulatory pressure concerning the safety and well-being of minors on social media platforms.
