An advisory body on artificial intelligence established by the United Nations has released a pivotal report outlining seven strategic recommendations to enhance global governance of AI. The report, unveiled on Thursday, addresses critical risks and gaps associated with the rapidly evolving technology.
Formed last year, the 39-member advisory group was tasked with tackling international AI governance challenges. Its recommendations will be a key focus at the upcoming UN summit in September, where global leaders will deliberate on the future of AI regulation.
Among the key proposals, the advisory body advocates for the creation of an independent panel dedicated to providing unbiased, scientifically grounded insights into AI. This initiative aims to bridge the information gap between AI research laboratories and the broader public, ensuring more equitable access to knowledge and addressing potential information asymmetries.
