Intel Dismisses Arm’s Acquisition Proposal for Product Division

Intel has reportedly rebuffed an approach from Arm Holdings regarding a potential acquisition of its product division, according to a Thursday report by Bloomberg News. Sources familiar with the situation indicate that Intel communicated to Arm that the division is not for sale.

The British chip manufacturer did not show interest in acquiring Intel’s manufacturing operations, as per the report. It remains unclear whether discussions are ongoing or have been entirely discontinued.

Both Arm and Intel have declined to comment on the matter.

Intel, once a leading player in the semiconductor industry, has seen its manufacturing supremacy eroded by Taiwanese competitor TSMC. The company has struggled to produce a sought-after chip that could leverage the generative AI boom, a market currently dominated by Nvidia and AMD.

Additionally, Qualcomm has approached Intel to discuss a possible acquisition, which could represent a significant shift in the semiconductor landscape.

In response to its challenges, Intel is working to pivot its strategy by focusing on AI processors and establishing a chip contract manufacturing business, referred to as a foundry. The company has also announced plans to pause construction on factories in Poland and Germany, along with a reduction in its real estate holdings.
