CATL Reports Minimal Impact from Battery Plant Fire, No Injuries

China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) has announced that a fire at its battery manufacturing facility in Ningde, Fujian province, has resulted in only a “relatively small” impact on production and operations. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

In a statement to Reuters, CATL indicated that the number of affected products is minimal, emphasizing that the overall disruption to its manufacturing operations is expected to be limited. The company, recognized as the world’s largest battery manufacturer and a key supplier to Tesla, is noted for its high product reliability and production efficiency.

The fire took place in one of CATL’s core production bases, known as the “Z base,” located just ten minutes from its headquarters. Local reports confirmed that firefighting efforts successfully extinguished the blaze by 10:20 p.m. the same day.

This incident follows a tragic fire at a South Korean lithium battery plant in June, which resulted in 23 fatalities. Investigations suggested that the disaster was linked to production pressures that overlooked critical quality control issues.
