SEC Approves Options Listing for Spot Bitcoin ETFs on NYSE

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted accelerated approval for 11 exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to list and trade options linked to spot bitcoin prices on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), according to a recent regulatory filing.

This decision follows the SEC’s earlier approval in January for various bitcoin ETFs to track the cryptocurrency, marking a significant milestone for both bitcoin and the wider crypto industry.

Among the approved funds are the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, ARK21Shares Bitcoin ETF, Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, and iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF. This new development allows institutional investors and traders to hedge their bitcoin exposure more efficiently through listed options, which are derivatives that give the holder the right to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price by a specified date.

Additionally, last month, the SEC also approved options trading for BlackRock’s exchange-traded fund on the Nasdaq, indicating a growing acceptance of cryptocurrency-based financial products in the mainstream investment landscape.
