Roblox Corporation (RBLX.N) announced plans to establish an office in Turkey, contingent on the restoration of access to its platform, which was blocked by the Turkish government over child safety concerns. The blockade was implemented in August after a court order aimed at protecting children while an investigation was underway.
Turkey’s Justice Minister previously stated that the action was taken to “ensure the protection of our children” amid allegations regarding harmful content. In response, Roblox emphasized its commitment to contributing positively to society by fostering a “platform for learning, creation, and meaningful connection.” The company expressed a willingness to collaborate with local authorities to address Turkey’s specific needs.
Roblox detailed its intention to set up an office and hire a dedicated team in Turkey, including local language moderators, once access to the platform is reinstated. “Roblox respects the local laws and regulations in Türkiye. We are actively engaged with local authorities and the due legal process to restore access to the platform while prioritizing the safety of players and developers in Türkiye,” the company stated.
The ban on Roblox follows Turkey’s recent restriction of access to Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms Inc. (META.O), citing similar legal and societal concerns.
