The 8th annual IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTWSC) saw an impressive turnout as over 11,000 professionals from more than 100 countries convened in Barcelona to explore the transformative impact of disruptive technologies. Held from May 21-23 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, the event featured a range of presentations, panels, exhibitions, and networking opportunities.
Marc Tarragó, Director of IOTWSC, remarked, “Our event brings together the entire global technology ecosystem, empowering the industry to leverage technology in overcoming its most significant challenges.”
Programmed by the International Society of Automation (ISA), the congress featured four thematic tracks, 150 distinguished speakers, and 337 exhibitors. The opening keynote was delivered by Rahul Shahani, partner at McKinsey & Company. Titled “Lighthouses and the Path to Impact: Adopting #AI at Speed and Scale,” Shahani’s address emphasized the need for strategic roadmaps and evolving operational models to fully harness technological advancements. He also discussed the rapid spread of machine intelligence and the importance of incorporating diverse technology solutions, highlighting six success factors for achieving large-scale deployment and sustainable growth.
Industry Transformation Awards
A highlight of the event was the industry transformation awards ceremony, which recognized outstanding digital transformation projects across sectors such as manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and infrastructure. Alicia Asin, co-founder and CEO of Libelium, was honored as the Game Changer of the Year 2024.
Show Floor Highlights: Lavinia’s VR Experience
The IOTWSC show floor featured several testbeds—platforms designed to demonstrate new technologies in real-world scenarios. Among them was Lavinia’s Virtual Reality (VR) experience, which focused on the content and structure of dreams, allowing users to interact with elements that have not yet been physically produced. This innovative digital solution offered a glimpse into future showroom and environmental presentations.
Commitment to Sustainability: The Green Tunnel
Beyond IoT and cybersecurity, the 2024 IoT Solutions World Congress also emphasized sustainability. The venue featured the Green Tunnel, an area adorned with various plants, symbolizing a commitment to a sustainable future. IOTWSC pledged to plant one tree for every person who walked through the Green Tunnel during the three-day event.
IOTWSC Expands to Brazil
In early June, IOTWSC expanded its reach by hosting its first event in Brazil at the Transamérica Exhibition Centre in São Paulo. Under the motto “Touch the Unlimited Possibilities of Innovation,” the event attracted over 5,000 attendees from 20 countries. Participants engaged with 45 speakers and 50 exhibitors, furthering the global dialogue on IoT solutions and innovation.
The IOTWSC continues to be a pivotal event for the global technology community, fostering collaboration and showcasing groundbreaking advancements in the field.
