Google Pixel 9 to Introduce Two Years of Complimentary Satellite SOS Service: New Leak Reveals

The highly anticipated Google Pixel 9 series, set to debut globally and in India on August 13, may feature a groundbreaking satellite SOS service, according to recent reports. A detailed analysis of the latest Android 15 beta update suggests that Google could offer up to two years of complimentary satellite SOS service for Pixel users, mirroring the service period currently available with Apple’s iPhone 14 and newer models.

    Unveiling Google’s Satellite SOS Service

In a collaborative investigation, Android Authority, in partnership with the tipster AssembleDebug, examined the Android 15 Beta 4 update released last week. Their findings reveal clues about a new emergency connectivity feature called “Pixel Satellite SOS.”

This service appears to enable users to connect with emergency responders via satellite. According to the code strings unearthed during the teardown, when users engage this feature, their critical information—including name, email, phone number, location, emergency contacts, and device details—is transmitted to both emergency services and satellite service providers.

The update’s code also hints that Google might provide this satellite SOS feature free of charge for two years. The footer text discovered in the beta code states, “Satellite SOS is included at no charge for {two} years,” aligning with the two-year complimentary period offered by Apple for its Emergency SOS via Satellite on iPhone 14 and later models.

Expanding Satellite SOS Across Pixel Devices

Additionally, it is speculated that Google plans to extend satellite SOS capabilities to older Pixel models. The upcoming Pixel 9 series is expected to ship with Android 15, potentially making it the first to feature this new technology. However, existing Pixel devices might also receive an update enabling satellite-based emergency communication.

This feature was initially hinted at in March by tipster Mishaal Rahman. It is believed that an update to the Adaptive Connectivity Services app introduced a Satellite SOS settings page under the Safety & Emergency tab. This page is purported to provide details on how the feature functions, allow users to customize the information shared with emergency services, and offer an option to purchase Garmin Search & Rescue insurance.

As anticipation builds for the Pixel 9 series launch, these revelations highlight Google’s commitment to enhancing user safety with advanced technology.
