India’s Antitrust Probe Reveals Amazon and Flipkart Violated Competition Laws

An investigation by India’s antitrust authorities has concluded that major U.S. e-commerce players, Amazon (AMZN.O) and Walmart’s (WMT.N) Flipkart, breached local competition regulations. The probe, led by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), found that both companies had favored certain sellers on their platforms, violating fair competition rules.

The CCI’s inquiry, which began in 2020, focused on allegations that Amazon and Flipkart gave preferential treatment to specific sellers with whom they had business arrangements. This included prioritizing certain product listings, thereby potentially skewing market competition.
