AI Takes Center Stage at CES 2024: From Smart TVs to ChatGPT in Volkswagen Cars

LAS VEGAS – The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, officially commencing in Las Vegas, is set to showcase the forefront of technological innovations, with artificial intelligence (AI) occupying a central role. The world’s largest gadget extravaganza anticipates over 3,500 exhibitors and around 130,000 visitors eager to witness the latest in tech.

During press previews, both large corporations and smaller enterprises emphasized AI as a common thread in their product presentations, promising enhancements for a better quality of life. LG’s CEO, William Cho, stated that the world is at “a historical turning point” due to AI, highlighting his company’s commitment to leveraging real-life data from smart devices worldwide to detect behavioral patterns and offer insights.

Major TV manufacturers such as LG and Samsung unveiled AI enhancements designed to significantly improve image quality, aid users in discovering preferred shows, and transform televisions into “smart command hubs” connecting various home appliances. Jessica Boothe, a research director at the Consumer Technology Association, expressed that TVs are evolving into command centers for homes, extending beyond entertainment streaming.

Volkswagen introduced what it claims to be the first vehicles featuring a chatbot powered by OpenAI‘s ChatGPT technology. The “Cerence Chat Pro” digital assistant, a result of collaboration with Cerence Inc., will become a standard feature in many Volkswagen vehicles starting in the second quarter of this year. Nvidia, renowned for its graphics chips capable of handling AI computing demands, announced new chips for gamers and creators.

Notably, Apple, not present at CES, announced the release of its highly anticipated Vision Pro mixed reality headset on February 2, marking the company’s first significant product release since the Apple Watch in 2015. Priced at $3,499 before tax, the Vision Pro is positioned as an advanced consumer electronics device, heralding the era of spatial computing, according to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

As CES unfolds, industry experts anticipate a strong focus on AI across health, automotive, beauty, entertainment, and sustainability sectors. The integration of AI into daily life is expected to be a pervasive theme, with significant advancements building upon more than a decade of investments in AI technologies.
