Former U.S. President Donald Trump, currently a Republican presidential candidate, announced on Friday that he intends to seek the prosecution of Google if he wins the election on November 5. He accused the tech giant of displaying only negative stories about him while promoting favorable coverage of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some made up for this purpose, while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Kamala Harris.” He described this behavior as “illegal activity” and expressed hope that the Justice Department would pursue criminal charges against the company for what he called “blatant interference in elections.”
Trump further asserted, “If not, and subject to the laws of our country, I will request their prosecution at the maximum levels when I win the election and become president of the United States.”
Google has not yet responded to requests for comment on Trump’s allegations.
This is not the first time Trump has raised concerns about Google’s treatment of his media coverage. In 2019, he claimed on Twitter, now known as X, that the search engine favored negative news stories about him during the 2016 presidential election. Google dismissed those claims at the time.
In recent weeks, some of Trump’s supporters have revived these allegations. Following an assassination attempt on Trump in July, billionaire Elon Musk accused Google of implementing a search ban on the former president in a post on X.
