Alphabet’s Google announced on Thursday that it will relocate the team behind its Gemini app to the artificial intelligence research lab, DeepMind. This strategic move aims to streamline operations and enhance the company’s position in the competitive generative AI landscape.
In a blog post, CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that the transition “will improve feedback loops and enable the fast deployment of our new models in the Gemini app.” Gemini represents Google’s cutting-edge AI technology, with the app serving as the primary consumer interface for the latest models developed by DeepMind.
The team overseeing the Gemini app, led by Sissie Hsiao, will now operate under the leadership of DeepMind’s CEO, Demis Hassabis.
Additionally, Google announced that Prabhakar Raghavan, who has previously overseen products such as search, ads, and commerce, will transition to the role of chief technologist, collaborating closely with Pichai. Nick Fox, who has been instrumental in shaping Google’s AI product roadmap, will succeed Raghavan as the lead of the Knowledge and Information team.
