Couchbase Launches Tools to Simplify Development of Secure AI Applications

Couchbase has introduced a suite of tools designed to streamline the creation of secure, scalable agentic AI applications. The company’s new offering, Capella AI Services, aims to address common challenges in the AI development process by providing a comprehensive set of services for building and deploying AI agents.

Capella AI Services includes several key features such as model hosting, automated vectorization, unstructured data preprocessing, and an AI agent catalog. These features are designed to enable developers to efficiently prototype, build, test, and deploy AI agents while reducing latency and operational costs typically associated with integrating new technologies.

Matt McDonough, Senior Vice President of Product and Partners at Couchbase, highlighted the significance of AI in transforming applications. “As AI dramatically transforms applications, organisations need secure ways to integrate it and must handle the surge of data across diverse formats to build and deploy agentic applications with confidence,” he said.

The new services address a variety of challenges faced by enterprises adopting AI, including concerns over data security, privacy, performance, and cost management. Capella AI Services is aimed at simplifying these complexities while ensuring high levels of control and security throughout the development process.

Key Features of Capella AI Services

Capella AI Services consists of five primary components:

Model Services: Managed endpoints for popular large language models (LLMs) and embedding models.

Unstructured Data Services: Tools for processing and transforming documents into a usable JSON format.

Vectorization Services: Automated data vectorization and indexing to streamline AI model training.

AI Agent Catalog Services: A central repository for AI tools, resources, and metadata.

Capella AI Functions: A platform for AI-driven data analysis using SQL++ syntax.

Carl Olofson, Vice President of IDC Research, remarked that the rise of AI agents is creating new data management challenges for businesses. “Couchbase Capella and its new AI Services are designed to strategically address these challenges, providing enterprises with scalable architecture and the flexibility required to manage complex retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows,” Olofson said.

Capella AI Services is particularly focused on simplifying the integration of RAG pipelines, a key feature for developing AI-driven applications. It provides developers with the flexibility to use existing skills and tools, including the SQL++ query language, while ensuring secure interactions with models and maintaining high performance.

A Scalable Solution for AI Development

Couchbase’s new platform aims to reduce development complexity and operational costs while helping organizations create more personalized, contextually aware AI applications. By supporting development from prototype to production, Capella AI Services facilitates the deployment of AI applications across cloud and edge environments, offering a flexible and secure framework for modern AI development.

The launch of Capella AI Services underscores Couchbase’s commitment to simplifying AI development while addressing key challenges in data security and performance.
