Meta Unveils ‘Motivo’ AI, Revolutionizing Avatars for the Metaverse

Meta has launched Motivo, a new AI model designed to revolutionize digital avatars in the Metaverse and Web3. This innovative model aims to make avatar movements more lifelike and seamless by optimizing full-body motion control. Unlike traditional AI models that require extensive training, Motivo uses unsupervised reinforcement learning to teach avatars how to perform a wide range of actions—from simple gestures to complex dynamic movements. It can also handle tasks like motion tracking and goal pose execution without needing additional training.

The AI works by learning from unlabelled datasets of human motion, enabling avatars to replicate realistic behaviors through “zero-shot inference.” This allows for more natural and fluid virtual interactions, enhancing the overall user experience in virtual worlds. Meta showcased the capabilities of Motivo by sharing a demo video on X (formerly Twitter), featuring a humanoid avatar performing detailed movements such as dynamic kicks and dance routines.

By improving the realism of avatars, Motivo is set to have a significant impact on the Metaverse, making digital avatars more engaging and authentic in virtual environments.
